Will Do Kwon Miss The Start of His US SEC Fraud Trial?

Complications in Do Kwon’s extradition from Montenegro could reportedly result in him missing the start of his alleged fraud trial by the SEC next month.
This comes after Kwon requested to postpone the initial January trial date to resolve these complications and attend the trial in person.
Do Kwon Opts Against Seeking Trial Extension
A recent Reuters report states that Kwon has decided not to seek an adjournment of the trial date even if his extradition faces delays, despite it already being rescheduled once to accommodate the possibility of his return to the United States for in-person attendance.
Additionally, in a court filing, Kwon’s lawyer David Patton affirmed that he will not consider altering the trial date, set for March 25, irrespective of the extradition process’s progress in the upcoming weeks.
On January 16, the SEC approved Kwon’s request to postpone the trial until mid-March, allowing him to appear in person.

Meanwhile, on February 21, BeInCrypto reported that Montenegro’s Podgorica High Court has green-lighted the extradition of Do Kwon.
This follows previous decisions to approve his extradition. However the appeals court in Montenegro reversed the decision.
The appeals judge stated that the Higher Court failed to adhere to proper procedures. Thereby, it breached standards by approving Kwon’s extradition to the US.
Meanwhile, in December 2023, BeInCrypto reported that Kwon was facing an extension of his detention in a Montenegro jail for an additional two months.

This occurred amid the ongoing dispute regarding the potential extradition country. Furthermore, both the United States government and South Korea were requesting Kwon’s extradition to their respective countries.
In June 2023, it was reported that Kwon received a four-month sentence from the Montenegrin court. This was handed down for attempting to travel on a falsified passport.
